حسن الأمين (1908 - 2002)، أديب وشاعر ورحالة وقاضي ومؤرّخ لبناني، عاش متنقلا بين دمشق والعراق ولبنان وهو ابن المرجع الشيعي محسن الأمين.
وهو من أسرة علمية أصلها من بلدة شقرا العاملية (جنوب لبنان) كان والده (السيد محسن الأمين) قد هاجر إلى النجف لتحصيل العلوم الدينية فيها، وعاد واستقرّ في إحدى ضواحي دمشق حيث أسس فيها مدرسة عُرفت فيما بعد بالمدرسة المحسنية.
كان متحمّسا للقضايا العربية وللأمير فيصل في دمشق، ومناهضا للفرنسيين.
كان أول نشاط سياسي علني لحسن الأمين عند وفاة النائب فضل الفضل في النبطية، فشجّع حسن الأمين عبد اللطيف الأسعد بالترشّح ضد آل الفضل المدعومين آنذاك من (بشكوف) المستشار الفرنسي في صيدا.
وقد اصطحب حسن الأمين عبد اللطيف الأسعد إلى دارة رياض الصلح لحثّه على الترشح.
ويُشار إلى أن عبد اللطيف خسر الانتخابات بوجه آل الفضل.
بعد ذلك في العام 1960 ميلادي ترشّح حسن الأمين للانتخابات النيابية عن قضاء بنت جبيل متحالفا مع عبد اللطيف بيضون ضد آل الأسعد ولم يفز في تلك الانتخابات فانسحب من العمل السياسي بعد ذلك.
ورغم بعض تجاربه السياسية إلا انه لم يترك أثرا مكتوبا في العمل السياسي أو التجربة السياسية الخاصة به، بل تناول السياسة في عصره في معرض تناوله بعض النواحي الأدبية.
عرف عنه كثرة رحلاته وتنقلاته، فبعضها كان بدافع المعرفة وبعضها بدافع السياحة وبعضها بدافع جمع معلومات لموسوعاته وبعضها تلبية لدعوات وُجّهت إليه.
وابرز هذه الرحلات: رحلات إلى العراق: عام 1927 و1938 و 1945 رحلة إلى فلسطين ومصر بعد استقالته من القضاء.
رحلات إلى إيران: عام 1958 و 1966 و 1988 و 1989 و 1993 وعام 1996 وكانت آخر رحلاته.
رحلة إلى شرق أفريقيا في أواخر العام 1964 وبداية العام 1965 ميلادي وقد شملت: القاهرة، نيروبي، دار السلام، أروشا، كليمانجارو، والعودة كانت عن طريق أديس أبابا.
رحلة إلى الباكستان في العام 1964 ميلادي.
رحلة إلى تونس رحلة إلى بومباي في الهند.

الكتاب عبارة عن جزء من كتاب أعيان الشيعة يحتوي على سيرة السيد محسن الأمين مضافاً إلى بعضاً من رسالة التنزيه ومختارات من ديوانه "الرحيق المختوم" وما قيل في السيد بعد وفاته من خطب وقصائد وما كتب فيه من مقالات.
