في هذا الكتاب، ذكر لسير خمسة من العرفاء الذين تتلمذوا مباشرة على يد الأئمة أهل البيت رضي الله عنهم وهم: "سلمان الفارسي" الذي كان من الحواريين الثلاثة لرسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم؛ نشأ في بيته مجوسية، ولكن كان إيمانه الكبير بما هداه الله إليه كالطود الشامخ لا تزعزعه الزلازل ولا تهزه الرياح.
"أويس القرني" الذي كان أحد الحواريين الأربعة للإمام علي رضي الله عنه، أمن بالرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم على الرغم من أنه لم يراه، وكان حقاً داعية للإسلام ببصمته وروعه وإجتهاده.
"بايزيد البسطامي" الذي جاهد في إكتساب علمه وذلك في سبيل الله فركب راحلة الشوق، وتزود بزاد اليقين، وتوجه إلى كعبة الإمام جعفر الصادق وبقي في خدمته مدة طويلة.
"بشر الحافي" فهو تلميذ للإمام الكاظم رضي الله عنه، استلهم منه الهداية العظمى ببركة إعتقاده الراسخ بأصول الدين وعلى الأخص أصل الإمامة.
"معروف الكرخي" الذي تعلم على يد الإمام علي بن موسى الرضا رضي الله عنه فنون الطريقة والسير والسلوك إلى الله تعالى وتربى في كنفه وأسلم على يديه.
