في مجموعته القصصية "رفيقة إلى البيت" يسلّط الكاتب عواض العصيمي الضوء على الأشياء المتفلتة في حياة الإنسان العادية، فبمجرد الدخول إلى عالم النص، يبرز حضور فاعل للصور المتدفقة التي على الرغم من إحساسنا بها بسيطة في حياة الشخوص، فإذا بها عبر قناة الفن القصصي، وقائع ذات قيمة ودلالة كبيرة في الواقع المرئي الملموس، فتشخص أمامنا في عيشها وأحلامها حيّة نابضة وكأنها حقيقية، غير أن ما يجمع هذه الشخصيات، أنها تحيل إلى فضاء إجتماعي هامش، الكتابة عنه، هي رسالة الأدب، وقد تدفقت على رسلها في النص، صادقة، مباشرة، وتكاد تكون نسخة منقحة عن البُنى الإجتماعية التي تعيش وسطها الشخوص، يتمظهر هذا أكثر في القصة المعنونة "نزاع في الأعلى" والتي يبدو فيها مسألة الرضوخ للأمر الواقع، أمراً لا بد منه " ... أفكر الآن على هذا النحو: لو لعبت في رأسه تلك الأمور التي تدمر الحكمة فإن مصيرنا، نحن سكان العمارة، سيكون الموت الفجائي، ستنهدم العمارة على رؤوسنا ونحن نغط في النوم أو الغفلة أو السذاجة المطلقة، أو تواجه التشريد والعيش في البرية في أحسن الأحوال ...". وهكذا يسعى الكاتب إلى إعطاء كل شخصية في العمل صوتاً ولغة خاصة بها، والصوت الشخصي هنا يعني الأسلوب الفردي الخاص، الذي تتميز به كل شخصية عن غيرها في مواجهتها الواقع، وهو رؤية مستمدة من المجتمع الذي يختلف أفراده في طريقة رؤيتهم لأنفسهم وللعالم من حولهم، وكذا موقف الكاتب/ السارد الذي ينبث من بين الأصوات الروائية المتعددة التي تتحاور وتتقاطع في النسيج السردي.
يضم الكتاب قصصاً قصيرة جداً جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "مع التعليق على أقواله" ، "أنقاض البناء العالي" ، "الكلاب" ، "النائمة" ، "خدمة" ، "تلفزيون" ، "ريح السطوح" ، "قدح السماء" ، "عروس النوم" (...) وقصص أخرى.
