خلق الله الأحياء وجعل لكل منها نمطاً غذائياً يخصّه ويحفظ له تكاثره وبقاءه، وجعل الإنسان أرقى المخلوقات فوهب له النبات والحيوان غذاءاً له، وحرّم عليه ما يضرّه منها، وجعل من بعض النباتات شفاءاً له من الأمراض، فلكل نبات خصائص تفيد في مجالات طبية معينة.
وفي هذا الكتاب الذي يمثّل مرجعية لأنواع النباتات، قام المؤلف بتناول بعض الخضراوات والفواكه موضحاً التركيب التحليلي لها، والقيمة الغذائية، ومبيناً الاستخدامات الطبية لها كدواء، وذلك في ضوء ما أظهره العلم الحديث، وما كشفت عنه التجارب المحلية الجديدة.
ويمكن القول بأن هذا الكتاب إنما هو دعوة للتقليل مما تعانيه البشرية من ويلات الكيماويات والدواء، حيث أثبتت الدراسات والأبحاث أن السبب الرئيسي لتدهور صحة الإنسان وتفشي الأمراض يرجع إلى الوسط أو البيئة التي تحيط بنا والتي تروض بالمواد الكيماوية والصناعية والمواد السامة والغازات الضارة، لذا فإن الملاذ الوحيد من هذا كله هذه الخضراوات وهذه الفواكه التي تقي وتحمي الجسم من كثير من الأمراض.
إن استخدام الأشياء الطبيعية للعلاج والإستشفاء ليست دعوة للتخلف أو النظر للوراء, وليست إنكاراً لما وصل اليه العلم, ولكنها دعوة للأخذ بالأسباب الطبيعية في الشفاء الى جانب ما وصل اليه العلم
