يعمل الكتاب على عرض وتحليل المتغيرات والمستجدات التي عرفها الصراع العربي - الإسرائيلي على مدى ستة عقود (1949 – 2009)، في محاولة للإجابة عن سؤال: هل سار الزمن خلال تلك الحقبة لمصلحة الكيان الصهيوني ورعاته أم لمصلحة قوى الممانعة العربية؟ لقد هيمنت على طرفي الصراع العربي - الصهيوني على مدى خمسة عقود، منذ تأسيس دولة «إسرائيل» حتى نهاية القرن العشرين، مقولة طالما شعر الطرف العربي معها بالضعف والعجز مقابل شعور الطرف الآخر، الصهيوني، بالقوة والجبروت. غير أن هذه المشهدية النمطية - أي مقولة الجيش الإسرائيلي الذي لا يُقهر، المبنيّة أساساً على سلسلة هزائم مُنيت بها الجيوش العربية على مدى تلك العقود - أخذت تتغير مع بدايات القرن الجديد، حين اضطر هذا الجيش إلى التقهقر لأول مرة من أرض عربية كان يحتلها. ومع تصاعد دور المقاومة في لبنان وفلسطين منذ مطلع القرن الجديد وفرضها معادلات جديدة في الصراع العربي - الصهيوني، وبخاصة في حرب لبنان 2006، ثم في حرب غزة 2009، أخذت هذه المشهدية النمطية تتحطم، وبدا الزمن مفتوحاً على احتمالات لم يكن طرفا الصراع يأخذانها في الحسبان في ما مضى.
