أصبحت الحاجة ماسة إلى عمل موسوعي يضع بين أيدي القراء الشباب شتى المعارف والعلوم، ويقبرها إلى أذهانهم، كما سهل عليهم عملية الوصول إليها والاستفادة منها، خاصة وأنه ما طرأ على الحياة من أوجه التقدم والتطور ما يجعل هذه الفئة من الناس تنصرف عن القراءة إلى اللهو واللعب واستخدام مخترعات الحضارة الحديثة كالكمبيوتر وغيرها.
وانطلاقاً من هذه الحاجة جاءت فكرة هذه الموسوعة التي أريد لها أن تلبي حاجة الشباب إلى المعرفة والعلوم دون أن ترهقهم أو تشعرهم بالملل.
تتألف الموسوعة من ثماني مجلدات، ومن ثلاثة أقسام رئيسية، تدور حول تاريخ الشعوب والقبائل والأمم والأحداث السياسية المهمة التي كان لها دور كبير في صنع حاضر هذه الشعوب والأمم. المجلد الأول يضم عرضاً عاماً للثورات والحروب والغزوات والمعارك الكبرى في التاريخ. أما المجلد الثاني فيقدم عرضاً ميسراً مصحوباً بالصور الملونة لآلات الحروب والأسلحة القديمة والحديثة.
في حين يتناول المجلد الثالث أهم المواقف الخالدة في تاريخ الحروب، ويتضمن المجلد الرابع تعريفاً بالقادة والزعماء والأحداث السياسية التي عاصروها وشاركوا في صنعها. ويخصص المجلد الخامس لثورات التحرر والانقلابات السياسية التي حدثت عبر القرون المتعاقبة. أما المجلدات الثلاث الأخيرة (السادس، السابع، الثامن) فتدور حول تاريخ ونشأة الشعوب والقبائل والأمم. كما زودت الموسوعة بجداول تحوي أسماء الملوك أو الخلفاء أو الأمراء، أو السلاطين الذين تعاقبوا على الشعوب والقبائل وتاريخ اعتلائهم عرش الإمارة أو المملكة.
