أنجبت “حنَّة” طفلةً صغيرةً لطيفةً ناعمةً كالمرمر، أسمتها “مريم” أي “العابدة”. وأتت بها إلى “بيت المقدس”؛ لكي تتربَّى في مكانٍ طاهرٍ يُعبد فيه الله، وحينما بلغت سنَّ التّاسعة كانت تصوم النّهار وتقوم اللّيل لكي تصلي للّه.
ولأَنَّ مريم كانت تحبُّ الله كثيرًا، فقد أرسل إليها ملائكةً لطيفةً تحيط بها وتحدِّثها، وتنزل إليها من الجنَّة فاكهةً لذيذةً.
