تمثل أعماله ديناميكية الحياة العائلية اليابانية في سياق التغيّرات السريعة في المجتمع الياباني في القرن العشرين، كما تمثل البحث عن هوية ثقافية يابانية في العالم الحديث.
حصل على وسام الثقافة عام 1949.
Book Description
هي قصة بسيطة لكنها ذات معزى كبير. فبطل الرواية وهو مهندس يسمّى "جوجي" يقع في غرام فتاة يابانية صغيرة السن لا تتجاوز الرابعة عشرة من عمرها، ربما لأن ملامحها (غريبة) فيقرّر تربيتها وتعليمها ليصنع منها امرأة غربية عصرية، وهو النمط الذي يهواه.
ولكن بعد أن شبّت ناوومي عن الطوق، خرجت عن الخط الذي رسمه لها "جوجي" وتحدّت التقاليد اليابانية بثيابها، وأسلوبها، وسلوكها، بل وراحت ترتمي في أحضان الرجال الغربيين، الذين استهواها أسلوبهم في الحياة لتتحول بالتدريج إلى وحش، ليس باستطاعة أحد السيطرة على تصرفاته.
