بعد أن طرق باب "الإمام المهدي" كبار المحقَقين، وألَف فيه من أساطين العلماء قدماء ومتأخرين سنة وشيعة، واصبحت قضية الإمام المهدي رضي الله عنه قضية إسلامية، برغم الضغط والتركيز من كل الحكومات المتعاقبة على تشويه نظرية الإمامة بشكل عام، وإقامة المهدي بشكل خاص، والتي لم تؤثر على جوهر الإعتقاد، ولم تزعزع ثقة المنتمين إلى مدرسة أهل البيت رضي الله عنهم، أو تقلل من الحماس والترقب عند الأجيال المؤمنة بذلك الوعد الإلهي الذي بشَر به الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم.
ومن هؤلاء الذين تطرقوا إلى هذه المسألة السيد والي الزاملي والذي عرض في هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا فكرة الإمام المهدي مستعرضاً آراء العلماء في ولادته وبالتشكيك بوجوده. كما بحث في الفصول الأخرى من الكتاب البعد الغيبي في قضية الإمام المهدي وحاجة الأمة إليه، كما قدم في الفصل الثالث إشكالية العمر الطويل للإمام المهدي مستعيناً يالقرآن والتاريخ كمل يحدث في الفصل الرابع عن دور المرجعية الدينية في زمن الغيبة الكبرى، وإستكمل عرضه لظاهرة نكران ظهوره عند جملة من العلماء مع ذكر لبعض الإثباتات عند علماء أخرين.
وختم كتابه هذا بالحديث عن الإمام المهدي في الأدب العربي حيث قام الكثير من الشعراء بتنظيم قصائد وأبيات نسبة للإمام المهدي.
