من المهيمنات الفنية غير النمطية التي تثير الإنتباه في (الكائن الخاسر لظلّه) المجموعة القصصية الجديدة للقاص ربيع مرشد، يمكن الإشارة إلى ما يمكن تسميته بـ "الأسلوب التلغرافي" في الكتابة القصصية، وهو اتلأسلوب الذي تبلور، بقوة، مع كتّاب عالميين أمثال إرنست همنجواي، وتكرس مع صنع الله إبراهيم في روايته الذائعة الصيت "تلك الرائجة"، كما وجد هذا الأسلوب طريقه في قصص ربيع مرشد الـ (17) هنا، فإذا ما اهتدينا إليها بقراءة متأنية، سنجد في كثير منها، قد حضرت الصور التي تومض كالبرق، واللحظات الخاطفة، والمشاهد الموجزة. وعلى غرار هذا الأسلوب يمكن قراءة قصة (العاقر) وهي إحدى قصص المجموعة: "صعد درجات البناية، قلبه يسبقه مع رائحة الورد، أصبح أمام باب الشقة، تردد قليلاً ثم فتح الباب؛ وجدها مستلقية فوق الأريكة، بهية جميلة مثل يوم عرسهما، لم يستطع أن يقدم لها شيئاً، لا الورد ولا غيره، اختارت أن ترفضه، أن تدير ظهرها لكل شيء؛ له ولورده الصدىء، ولحبه، ولإبنهما الذي لن يأتي أبداً ... أبداً ". وهذا الأسلوب الفني الطريف في الكتابة، هو ما اتبعه القاص مرشد في شكل أدبي مضغوط، فيه شيءٌ من المناورة الأدبية (شكلاً ومضموناً)، فهو يعرض علينا من خلاله الحياة الواسعة والعريضة لأحلام وآمال الناس، ويختصرها في قصص قصيرة، فاستحق القراءة والثناء.
يضم الكتاب سبعة عشرة قصة قصيرة جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "اختزالات" ، "لكنت فعلت ذلك" ، "وعود مؤجلة" ، "العاقر" ، "عدوى عكسية" ، "مغامرة الضوء الأخيرة" ، "الكائن الخاسر ظلّه" (...) وقصص أخرى.
