محمد بن عبد الله بن أحمد بن محمد بن الوليد بن عقبة بن الأزرق. أبو الوليد الأزرقي: مؤرخ، يماني الأصل، من أهل مكة.
تاريخ الوفاة: 297 هـ قاله صاحب \"كشف الظنون\".
شيوخه:
أحمد بن محمد بن الوليد الأزرقي.
محمد بن يحيى العدني.
أحمد بن نصر بن زياد النيسابوري.
هشام بن عمار المقري.
يعقوب بن حميد.
محرر بن سلمة.
تلاميذه:
إسحاق بن أحمد بن نافع الخزاعي.
مكانته:
أخذ العلم عن جده أحمد بن محمد بن الوليد الأزرقي المحدث شيخ البخاري وأبي حاتم الرازي، وهو أول من صنف في تاريخ مكة.
قال النديم: أحد الإخباريين وأصحاب السير.
قال ابن السمعاني: الأزرقي صاحب كتاب \"تاريخ مكة\" قد أحسن في تصنيف ذلك الكتاب أية الإحسان.
قال الشيخ الألباني - رحمه الله -: لم نجد له ترجمة في المراجع المطبوعة ولا المخطوطة سوى قولي السمعاني وابن النديم هذين.
