ومع أن معظم الناس تعرف الإقتصاد بالحدس والممارسة، وتلوك أسسه بمعانيها الحياتية، إلا أن كثيراً منهم لا يعرفها كإصطلاح، أو نظرية، أو قانون علمي أكاديمي، مع أن الجميل في الإقتصاد هو أن إصطلاحاته الهامة وأسسه قليلة جداً ومفهومة، إلا أن إضفاء الصفة الأكاديمية عليه، جعله شيئاً غامضاً صعباً.
