يضم هذا الكتاب واحدة من أهم الدراسات التي صدرت حتى الآن عن تاريخ الفلسطينيين المعاصر. وهي تقوم أساساً-بالاضافة الى البحث-على مقابلات اجرتها المؤلفة بين 1975و1978، مع عدد كبير من الفلسطينيين، مع تركيز خاص على الفلاحين أو أصحاب الأصول الفلاحية، الذين قادهم الاقتلاع عام 1948 الى لبنان. ويشمل هذا الكتاب: الوضع الاقتصادي والاجتماعي للفلاحيم في ظل الانتداب، أثر الانتداب والاستعمار الصهيوني في البنية الاجتماعية، دور بريطانيا في صنع الانتصار الصهيون، الاقتلاع والعوامل الحقيقية التي تكالبت لدفع الفلسطينيين الى "الهجرة"، وضع اللاجئين في البلدان المضيفة والتغييرات البنيوية ونتائج الاقتلاع، أشكال الاضطهاد السياسي حتى عام 1965، الثورة: جذورها وطبيعتها، بدء العمل الفدائي في لبنان وانعكاساته، نظرة نقدية على مهام الثورة وانجازاتها ومقدار التغيير الذي حققته.
