لا شك أن منظومة المفاهيم تشكل البنية الأساسية لكل فلسفة، وفي هذا العمل يقترح الدكتور"ناجي حسين جودة" دراسة تاريخ الفلسفة الإسلاميَة من خلال وعبر المفاهيم، ويتمثل في أن المفهوم يمثل عصارة تفلسف وترتبط به مشكلات وتاريخ، وأن التحليل الدقيق لكل ما يرتبط بالمفهوم لغة ومشكلات وإختلافات حول تحديده كل ذلك يمثل نمو الفكر المنتج للمفاهيم برأيه. وعليه، بهدف مؤلف الكتاب من وراء عمله هذا إلى قراءة تاريخ الفلسفة الإسلاميَة قراءة جديدة من خلال تتبع دقيق لمفاهيم أساسية، هي: العقل، الحدس، مع تخريج مفهوم النفس عند المتكلمين المسلمين، مع مقارنة تلك المفاهيم مع نظراتها في تاريخ الفكر الفلسفي الإنساني حيثما أمكن.
