فقد عمد هذا الكتاب إلى تجميع ما قاله مخالفو الشيعة قديماً وحديثاً في موضوع الإمامة، وإعادة صياغته بأسلوب جديد، ونشرة في كتابه من دون أن يشير إلى ما ردّ به علماء الشيعة على مخالفيهم من قريب أو من بعيد. وانطلاقاً من إدراك "خالد ابا ذر العطية" الطبيعة هذا الكتاب وهدفه، بادر إلى مناقشة ما جاء به من موضوعات ومعلومات وآراء وحجج وأدلة في الإمامة معتمداً المنهج العلمي وسيلة لبيان ما جاء من الكتاب. وقد تمثل هذا النقاش في مداخلات وهوامش نقدية.
