في الخمسينات أصدر الشاعر العربي الكبير بدر شاكر السياب ترجمته هذه لمختارات من الشعر العالمي الحديث، وهي مختارات لم تركز فقط على شعراء أوروبا، وإنما تضم إضافة إلى ذلك، قصائد من تركيا والهند وأميركا اللاتينية. ولعل ترجمة السياب هذه المحملة بسمات لغته تلك المتجلية في قصائده، تعد إحدى البوادر المبكرة التي انتهجها العرب للتعرف على شعر الآخرين، هذا التعرف الذي أثر بعد ذلك وعميقاً على القصيدة العربية الحديثة.
