هذا المعجم يستجيب الأهمية تكنولوجيا الكمبيوتر والمعلوماتية في العصر الحديث، ويرصد مصطلحات هذين العلمين، ويساعد في تعميم المعرفة العلمية في العالم العربي. ولقد استغرق وضع هذا المعجم ثلاث سنوات م البحث والتنقيب لأجل توفير مادته من مختلف المؤلفات والمنشورات المتخصصة الأجنبية والعربية بحيث هو يعكس واقع التعابير والمصطلحات الكمبيوترية والمعلوماتية العربية الأكثر شيوعاً وتداولاً حالياً مع بعض المشروحات المبسطة والموجزة لأهم المستحدث منها، وزيادة في الإيضاح زودنا المعجم بقاموس وجير فرنسي-إنكليزي وبفهرس عربي اشتمل معظم المصطلحات العربية الواردة في القاموس وهذا المسرد جاء مرتباً ألفبائياً.
أما التعابير التي لم نعثر لها على مرادفات متداولة فقد وضعنا لها مقابلاً توخيناً في اختياره الدقة والبساطة معتمدين قواعد الاشتقاق والقياس والتعريب التي نجدها في "قاموس المصطلحات العلمية والفنية والهندسية" للأستاذ أحمد الخطيب. وإذ نقدم هذا المعجم، فكلنا أمل بأن نكون قد أسدينا خدمة إلى المكتبة العربية بعامة، والمكتبة العلمية بخاصة، بحيث ينتفع به طلاب المعلوماتية والعاملون في حقل الكمبيوتر.
