لا شك أن هناك عوامل نفسية وإجتماعية وثقافية وتربوية وإقتصادية وطبية تتدخل في الأمراض بصفة عامة، وفي الأمراض الخطيرة بصفة خاصة ويحدث هذا التدخل سواء في الإصابة بها من جراء عدم اتباع أسلوب الحياة الصحي والإلتزام بالعادات الصحية الجيدة فالإمتناع عن التدخين أو الإسراف في تناول المكيفات أو الخمور والمخدرات أو إهمال النشاط والحركة الرياضية أو عدم الإلتزام بتناول الوجبات الصحية السلمية ولإبتعاد عن تناول الدهون والملح والسكر بكثرة أو الإنغماس في المشاكل والصراعات وبقلاقل النفسية أو حتى التطالب على العمل والكسب حتى وإن كان ذلك على حساب الصحة والعافية.
وبعد الإصابة بالمرض لا قدر لله هناك عوامل نفسية كثيرة تتدخل في تحقيق الشفاء أو التكيف مع المرض وبتأهيل له والتخلص من أعراضه والحرص على عدم عودة الأمراض ثانية أو حدوث الإنتطاس المرض. ويتطلب الأمر قبول المريض للأمر الواقع وتحاشي الأسباب والعوامل في تعرضه للإصابة ثانية والأمل والتفاؤل والتعايش مع المرض. ويلعب المحيطون بالمرض دوراً هاماً في تقديم العون والمساعدة لتحضير للمريض مع يساعده على سرعة الشفاء وسرعة التكيف.
وفي هذا العمل المتواضع إستعراض لبعض الأمراض الخطيرة مثل السكتة الدماغية، وأمراض القلب، والسرطان والربو الشعبي، والإيدز وداء السكري وغيرها من الأمراض مع بيان الصلة بين الحالة الجسمية والحالة النفسية.
