لا شك أن انتشار الجريمة وتغير أنماطها في الوقت الحاضر، يدعو المشتغلين بالعلم والبحث العلمي إلى ضرورة الاهتمام بدراسة الظاهرة الإجرامية وكافة مظاهر الجنوح والإغراق، وذلك للتعرف على الأسباب والظروف التي تدفع لارتكاب الجريمة وإلى تفشي الجريمة في الوقت الراهن وخاصة الجرائم التي لم تكن معروفة في مجتمعنا العربي والإسلامي قبل ذلك كجرائم هتك العرض، والاغتصاب، والسطو المسلح، والجرائم الجماعية، وجرائم العنف السياسي والإرهاف وفوق كل ذلك جرائم الأقارب والتي تهدر قيماً كانت مقدسة ومصانة عبر آلاف السنين. ولا بد أن هناك عوامل ومتغيرات وظروف تكمن وراء السلوك الإجرامي. ومن أظهر هذه العوامل العقلية أو النفسية أو الأبعاد النفسية في الجريمة كالجنون أو الخبل أو الثورة والتهيج أو فقدان القدرة على الإدراك والتمييز أو سيطرة مشاعر الحقد والغضب والانتقام والثأر أو حتى الشذوذ الجنسي أو الإدمان أو الأمراض العقلية أو النفسية أو السيكوباتية والضعف العقلي والتطرق والعنف والتسيب والفوضى وكلها عوامل نفسية في المحل الأول وتتصل بتربية الإنسان وتنشئته الاجتماعية. والجريمة تدل على أن هناك خللاً ما في شخصية الفرد أو في أسرته أو مجتمعه أو فيها جميعاً، و الدراسة الحالية تلقي بعضاً من الضوء على هذه الظاهرة وشخصية مرتكبها.
