قد لا يختلف اثنان من المعنيين بدراسة الشعر العربي - عبر عصوره المختلفة - أن الشعراء الجاهليين، ولا سيما الفحول منهم، قد فرضوا أنفسهم على اللاحقين من نظراتهم، من خلال إبداعاتهم الشعرية الشاخصة معطياتها في الرقي اللغوي، والتراكيب التامة، والدلالات الكامنة، والعذوبة الموسيقية، والصور الفنية، والأخيلة الخلافة، المستوفية جميعها حظوظاً من الجمالي الفني في أوجز لفظ وأوفى معنى.
وقد جمع المؤلف في هذا الكتاب طائفة من الدراسات والأبحاث التي أنجزها طوال سنوات تدريسه الجامعي، في عنوان جامع هو (الموروث الشعري... واقعيته وفنيته)، منسجمة منطلقاتها مع رؤى الشاعر المتضمنة أحاسيسه، ومشاعره، وتجاربه، ومشاهداته، ومعتقداته، وطموحاته، مع صلتها الوثيقة بما يختلج في نفوس مجتمعه من تطلعات القيت على عاتق الشاعر نفسه، الذي أودعها في فضاء الإبداع الشعري، بعد إعادته رسمها وتشكيلها وصياغتها في قالب فني، لتزيح هذه الرؤية من يقول أن الشعر سجل، أو امرآة، أو إنعكاس للبيئة، إذ تناسى المنادون بتلك المقولات أن الشعر فن، والشاعر فنان لا مؤرخ فحسب، من جهة، وإن عالم الشعر أو الشاعر مترامي الآفاق، ولا يمكن أن يضيق من خلال آراء جاهزة ومعالجات ساذجة أو عنوانات تقليدية، دأب بعض النقاد والباحثين على الإرتكاز عليها في منجزاتهم النقدية، ودراساتهم الشعرية، من جهة أخرى.
