"الأسطورة في الشعر العربي، قبل الإسلام، دراسة يسعى الباحث من خلالها إلى إثبات حقيقة محتواها أن الشعر والفكر وجهاز متوازيات بعضهم أحدهما بواسطة الآخر، وأن كل ما جاء في عملية الإبداع الشعرية، قد نفذ عن طريق هذا الفكر، دون تناسي ربط هذا الفكر ربطاً وثيقاً بالعوامل الاجتماعية والطبيعية، لأن القصيدة هي نتيجة تراكم بواعث كثيرة، وعوامل لا حصر لها، والفكر أحد تلك البواعث، التي لا يمكن فعلها عن بقية العوامل، وذلك بعد نظر الباحث إلى الأسطورة في هذا الشعر، على أنها تمثل جوهر الفكر العربي في ذلك العصر، وتجسد جانباً مهماً في حياته النفسية والوجدانية، وتشكل منطلقاته في تصوراته للكون والحياة.
وما كان لهذه الدراسة أن تقوم ومن الاعتماد على مناهج تشكل سنداً لها كما لمنهج النفسي، لبيان مدى تأثر هذا النوع من النتاج الفني بنفسية (مبدعه)، وما وصلته بالجماعة المنتمى إليها،والمنهج التاريخي لتحديد الظاهرة المدروسة، وبيان مؤثرات (ذلك العصر)، والمنهج الفني الكفيل بتتبع المبنى وقدرة القصيدة على النقل، بما تتضمنه من وسائل بيانية، واتجاهات قصصية لها أثر أيضاً في التغلغل وراء الصور الفنية، لإيجاد الربط بين الشكل والمحتوى الأسطوري، بالإضافة إلى ذلك اعتمد الباحث في دراسته هذه على بعض الدراسات التي عينت بالأسطورة من منظور الصورة الفنية في الشعر العربي قبل الإسلام. هذه المناهج كلها، كانت الأرضية التي استندت إليها مبادئ هذه الدراسة التي توزعت على خمسة فصول رئيسية، مسبوقة بتمهيد، ومودعة نتائجها في خاتمة تلاثبت بالمصادر والمراجع المعتمدة.
