من أجل كل قضية عربية، ولمصلحة كل شعب عربي، وإيماناً بالغد المشرق المأمول للأجيال العربية الصاعدة، مضى الكاتب العربي الكبير، ناصر الدين النشاشيبي -في ممارسته اليومية لحياة القلم والرأي- يغوص في معارك هذا الوطن، ويشارك في تجسيد آماله، ويدافع عن طيب رجاله، ويصارع الخيانة والانحراف، ويصفق للحرية والكرامة فكان قلمه الرائد ورأيه الشجاع أشبه بالسياط المتساقطة فوق رؤوس الانتهازيين والعملاء والانفصاليين.
وبقي -وعلى مدى الخمسين سنة الماضية- بقي هذا الفلسطيني العربي، لا يساوم، ولا يسكت، ولا يركع، ولا يهاون متنقلاً من بيروت وصحفها، إلى رئاسة تحرير جريدة (الجمهورية) القاهرية إلى ثروات بغداد، وإلى انتفاضات الأردن وإلى مسارح السياسة في لندن وواشنطن وجنيف، وإلى كواليس الأسرار في الرياض والجزائر والسودان، يسأل ويكتب وينشر ولا يخاف إلا الله!
ومنذ شهور قليلة جاء الأستاذ النشاشيبي إلى اليمن وقابل رئيس الجمهورية والتقى بأكبر مجموعة من زعماء الأحزاب، ورجال القبائل، وتنقل بين صنعاء وعدن والربع الخالي، واستمع إلى قصص الوحدة، وأحاديث الانفصال، وما تخلل كل منها من معارك وحروب. ثم خرج على القارئ العربي، بهذا الكتاب.
لقد كتب الأستاذ النشاشيبي في كل قطر عربي، وعن كل قطر عربي، ثم جاء دور اليمن، وأثبت الأستاذ النشاشيبي، في مؤلفه هذا، أن حبه لليمن وللثورة وللوحدة، لا يقل مطلقاُ عن حبه للقدس وفلسطين والقاهرة، أو عمان، أو بيروت!
وكتاب الدكتور النشاشيبي هذا ليس كتاباً تاريخياً فحسب، وإنما هو بالإضافة إلى ذلك يرسم الخطوط العامة لتطور اليمن السياسي الحديث وتسليط الأضواء على تاريخ مقاومة الشعب اليمني الباسلة ضد مستعمريه الأتراك والإنجليز، وضد الطغيان الفردي للأئمة والسلاطين، وهي الأمور التي لم تحظ باهتمام الكثير من المؤرخين.
