يمكننا القول إن تاريخ الاديان، من أكثرها بدائية إلى أكثرها ارتقاء، عبارة عن تراكم من الظهورات الإلهية، من تجليات الحقائق القدسية. ليس ثمة انقطاع لاستمرارية الظهورات الإلهية بدءاً من أكثرها ابتدائية، كتجلي القدسي في شيء ما، حجر أو شجر، وانتهاء بالتجلي الأعلى الذي يتمثل لدى المسيحي في تجسد الله في يسوع المسيح، فهو دائماً نفس الفعل الخفي: تجلي شيء "مختلف تماما" أي حقيقة لا تنتسب إلى عالمنا، في أشياء تشكل جزء لا يتجزأ من عالمنا "الطبيعي" الدنيوي".
