لن نقول إن بوسع هذا القاموس الصغير أن يحل محل القواميس الأكبر حجماً التي صدرت عن مكتبة لبنان، إلا أنه يستطيع، بفضل هذا الغنى بالمفردات العربية المترجمة إلى الفرنسية، أن يحل كثيراً من المعضلات، وأن يؤدي خدمات جلى لأولئك الذين يريدون الاستعانة به لقضاء حاجاتهم في شتى حقول المعرفة.
لقد تم اختيار المفردات العربية بعناية فائقة، وكان هاجسنا أن نضع بين يدي القارئ قاموساً يفي بكل متطلباته، فلم نوفر أي جهد من أجل بلوغ هذه الغاية.
لقد أوردنا أكثر ما يمكن من المفردات العربية بدقة باللغة، ولكن من غير أن نساوم على مكان تلك التي تتطلب بعض الشرح أو التي تكون ذات معان عديدة.
لا ريب أن القارئ سيلاحظ أن الترجمة الفرنسية للكلمة العربية جاءت غنية بالمرادفات، وهذا ما سيساعده كثيراً في عمله ودرسه. ونحن على ثقة بأن هذا القاموس سيكون، رغم صغره، خير معين لكل من أراد أن يزيد من معلوماته، ويغني ثروته الفرنسية من المفردات.
فأمام طلاب اللغة الفرنسية من أبناء الأقطار العربية قاموس عصري لم ينسج على منواله حتى الآن، ولا يستغني عنه طالب علم أو أديب أو مترجم أو صحافي أو غيرهم ممن له صلة باللغة الفرنسية. ونأمل أن نكون قد سددنا بهذا القاموس، حاجة لا غنى عنها، لكل دارس للغتين العربية والفرنسية في تواصلها الحضاري واللغوي.
