إن العلاقة الناصرية-البعثية توافقاً أو تناقضاً، هي في التحليل النهائي علاقة الحركة القومية عموماً بنفسها، لأنها بالرغم من كل التباينات الطبيعية بينهما-وتلك التي أوجبها التدهور الصراعي للخلاف-تنتميان موضوعياً وفي تصورهما الذاتي إلى ظاهرة فكرية-سياسية واحدة هي الصيغة القومية الحديثة في مواجهة تحديات العصر.
وفي هذا الإطار يتناول الباحث العلاقة الناصرية-البعثية من خلال دراسة استطلاعية في أزمة تطور الثورة العربية. هذه الدراسة التي أهمل بحثها كموضوع أكاديمي أو حتى من خلال الأعمال الفكرية إلى الآن. وعلى مدى فاصل زمني تجاوز الثلاثين عاماً. ويمكن القول أنه إذا كانت هناك ميزة واحدة للرؤية التي سعت إليها هذه الدراسة إلى تقديمها في هذا الكتاب فهي أنها تطرح طريقة للتفكير في كيفية تفسير أزمة العلاقة بين الناصرية وحزب البعث، تخرج بها من إطار العوامل المباشرة إلى الإطار الأرحب، والحقيقي من وجهة نظرها، ألا وهو أزمة تطور التيار القومي نفسه.
بذلك تتيح هذه الدراسة أيضاً إعطاء الأولوية لمعيار أسلم من غيره في تقييم مسؤولية كل طرف عن الإخفاقات والخلاف لاشتقاقه في إطار الثورية العربية القومية كمنظومة أفكار واستراتيجية عمل تغيير تعبر عن متطلبات نهضة الأمة العربية في ظروف العصر والتي يقاس عليها مدى صحة كافة ممارسات الاتجاهات السياسية التي تعتبر نفسها منتمية إليها.
