إن عالمنا عالم التغير والتحول، فلا يبقى شيء ثابتاً. بل أنه ستحول ويشيخ، وبعد ذلك يموت، وينطفئ، وينقضي عمره: فهل الدين كذلك؟ وهل للدين مرحلة زينيه، إذا مرت، وانقضت، فسوف ينقضِ عمر الدين أيضاً، أم ليس الأمر كذلك، بل هو دائم، باقٍ بين الناس، وإذا حدث، أن ظهرت حركة، معاوية للدين، تحاربه، وتحاول القضاء عليه، فالدين رغم ذلك، لا يموت، ولا ينطفئ، بل، إنه سيبقى نابضاً، سيظهر، ويثبت وجوده، بأشكال وصور أخرى بعد فترة وجيزة. يقول ويل ديورانت، وهو لا يؤمن بأي دين، في كتابه، (دروس التاريخ) في بحثه حول التاريخ والدين: (للدين مائة روح، كل شيء، إذا قضي عليه، في المرة الأولى، فإنه سوف يموت وإلى الأبد، إلا الدين، فإنه لو قضي عليه مائة مرة، فإنه رغم ذلك، سيظهر، وتنبعث فيه الحياة بعد ذلك. بهذه المقدمة استهل مرتضى مطهري محاضرته "الدين شمس لا تغيب" والتي جاءت بمثابة دراسته كانت في حدود القوانين والنواميس الطبيعية: ما هي الأشياء التي تبقى والأشياء التي تفنى وتموت؟ دون أن يتعرض في حديثه في محاضرته هذه للأمور الخارجة عن مدار الظواهر الاجتماعية، بل هو حدده في هذا المجال. وبمثل هذه الرؤية المنفتحة على العصر ومستحدثاته ويمثل هذا العمق في التفكير وفي التعاطي، يسوق مطهري بقية محاضراته: "الحد والغيبي في حياة الإنسان"، "القيادة والإدارة في الإسلام"، "الرشد الإسلامي"، "مسائل النظام والثورة". وسيلاحظ القارئ بأن المحاضرات استهدفت ترشيد الوعي الإسلامي لدى المسلم من خلال هذه الطروحات، في إطار معطيات عصره ومستجداته، كي لا يبقى حبيس أفكار وآراء متوازنة، كانت موائمة لزمانها ومكانها، ويبقى بعيداً بذلك عن فهم جوهر الإسلام ومبادئه وأحكامه واجتهاداته التي هي في حقيقة الأمر تفي احتياجات الإنسان العقلية والفكرية والحياتية، في كل زمان ومكان.
