يمثل شعر (سامي مهدي) (1940) تجربة شعرية ذات أثر مهم وفاعل ضمن شعر الستينيات العراقي، والعربي. ويستند ذلك إلى ملامح خاصة ومتفردة، إي إلى (أسلوبية) تمتع بها نصه الشعري. وهذا يفتح المجال واسعاً لدراسة أسلوبية فيه.
إن هذا الكتاب يهدف غلى إنجاز دراسة أسلوبية في نص (سامي مهدي) الشعري. ولما كان منجزه الشعري مستمراً، ولم يتوقف، فقد تم إختيار المجاميع المطبوعة ضمن حقبة الثمانينيات (من 79 إلى 89) لتكون محل الفحص الأسلوبي، والمتمثلة في: الأسئلة (79)، الزوال (81)، أوراق الزوال (85)، سعادة غوليس (87)، بريد القارات (89).
