لا شك أن للإستشراق خصوصيته وحضوره الكبير في دنيا الدراسات التاريخية العربية والإسلامية، ولا نبالغ إن قلنا أن له سطوة على عقول كثير من أساتذة الجامعات بحيث لا يكاد يفلت من سلطته أحد، ولا شك كذلك أن عُظم الوعي العربي متلبس بحالة إستشراقية تشكل قوامةً مرعبة على العقل العربي، ولا شك بعد ذلك أن هذا أمر خطير جد خطير يدفع بالعقل العربي إلى أن يكيل إتهامات تلو الإتهامات، مبررة وغير مبررة لتاريخه الطويل، وأن يمارس أثناء ذلك جلد ذاتٍ تقرع آذان الطلاب كل يوم، وتغيب أمجاد تاريخه وأيامه في بئر من الوحل والكذب.
ولكن هذه الدراسات وإن كانت تجمع في طياتها كل غث وسمين إلى جانب بعض الصواب فإنها لا تخلو من نظر وحكم يستفزك للمراجعة والتدقيق ومن التركيز على بعض النصوص والمصادر المحتاجة إلى فضل تدبر وتأمل.
ولو نظرنا جيداً فيما كُتب من كتب حول الإسلام بأيدي إستشراقية لتبين لنا أنها لا تخاطب العقل المسلم في الدرجة الأولى، بل تخاطب العربي المسيحي واليهودي، وبذلك تكون المعرفة المتضمنة في هذه الدراسات والكتب ذات توجه خاص، يصلح في حق الغربي ولا يصلح في حق غيره، ذلك إن وظيفة هذه الكتب مخصوصة ومحدودة وموقوفة على أمر معين.
