"أمة في خطر".. هي الخلاصة التي توصل إليها تقرير حال الأمة العربية للعام 2008-2009، الذي توقف في متابعته مستجدات حال الأمة عند نهاية الربع الأول من العام 2009 ما سمح له بمتابعة أحداث مهمة وقعت في تلك الشهور الثلاثة: تغيّر الإدارة الأمريكية، العدوان الإسرائيلي على غزة وتداعياته، انتخابات المحافظات في العراق، انتخابات الكنيست في إسرائيل، القمم العربية المتلاحقة من الكويت إلى الرياض فالدوحة على اختلاف مستوياتها. ومن هنا، يمكن القول إن العمل في التقرير انتهى قبل أيام معدودة من نشره.
لقد حافظ التقرير هذا العام أيضاً على اتساق المنهج الذي اتبعه منذ سنوات عدة، وهو المنهج الانتقائي الذي يعتمد في اختيار موضوعاته على إلحاحها.
ولحظ تقرير هذا العام أن بؤر التأزم قد حافظت على ثباتها، ومن هنا تم تناول حالات العراق ولبنان والصومال والسودان، إضافة بالطبع إلى القضية الفلسطينية. لكن ما يلفت في تلك البؤر هو احتدام التأزم بوضوح واتخاذه أبعاداً جديدة لم تلازمه في السابق. ما يعني أن التراخي في تصفية بؤر التأزم ينذر بتفاقمها ولا يسمح بـ "رفاهة" بقاء الوضع على ما هو عليه.
