في هذا الكتاب عرض للنظم الاجتماعية والتربوية عند الفرقة الإباضية في أفريقية، في مرحلة الكتمان، حيث يتحدث في الفصل الأول عن تاريخ المذهب الإباضي في شمال إفريقية منذ القرن الأول الهجري وحتى قيام نظام العزابة في العقد الأول من القرن الخامس الهجري.
أما الفصل الثاني فقد خصص لدراسة النظم الاجتماعية فبحث في نشأة مجالس العزابة وتطورها ووظائفها ودورها في المحافظة على المجتمعات الإباضية في أجزاء مختلفة من بلاد المغرب. ودرس هذا الفصل أيضاً المجالس الأخرى المساعدة لمجلس العزابة مثل مجلس العشيرة ومجلس العوام ومجلس شباب المدينة، وأفردت جزءاً من هذا الفصل للحديث عن مجلس العزابة الأعلى في منطقة مزاب في جنوب الجزائر.
وفي الفصل الثالث فدرس النظم التربوية عند العزابة مشيراً إلى التراتيب التعليمية والإدارية في المدرسة، وطرق التدريس، والامتحانات، وأنواع العقوبات والموارد المالية للمدرسة ولحلقة العزابة، ثم اتبع هذا الفصل بخاتمة أجملت بعض النتائج التي تم التوصل إليها كما وذكرت هذه الخاتمة إيجابيات وسلبيات هذه النظم الفريدة التي ابتدعها الإباضيون ثم طوروها طبقاً لحاجاتهم وتبعاً للظروف المتغيرة التي مرت بها حركتهم.
أما الفصل الرابع من الكتاب فقد خصص لشرح بعض المصطلحات الإباضية التي تخفى على القارئ العادي، وعلى المختصين في التاريخ الذين لم يعيروا هذا النوع من الدراسات الإسلامية اهتمامهم. ومنه تم شرح نحو أربعين مصطلحاً ذات علاقة مباشرة بموضوع الدراسة.
