الرسم عادته اليتيمة... أراد رسماً بحجم الوطن، يضم الوجوه، والأشجار، والبيوت... لا مستحيل تحت قبة السماء، يدرك أن ألوانه ستنفد، بعد يوم على الحصار، ستسرق من جيب حقيبته، وستعرض على أنها عبوة ناسفة، عندها سيخرجون بأكاليل غار مزيفة، يجرون الهزيمة والأصفاد.
يريد رسم الموت... ومن أجل الدقة أكثر اختيار الموت بحد ذاته، انتفاضة تؤكد "لإنسان لا يستطيع اختيار الحياة، لأنها معطاة أصلاً.." بيدس يقول "من لا يموت من الصعب أن يقول إنه يعيش..." يعبث بفكرة عودة الشهداء بعد الموت "يعودون... لا، يعودون..." ويعد العشرة على أصابعه... "يعودون... أجل يعودون..." يصرخ بأعلى صوته لتسمع انتفاضة.
الشهداء يعودون... والأرض تقبل على الحياة بدمائهم... والمفتاح يعود مكانه مصدراً الصوت نفسه في سكرته العتيقة.
لم يطل تفكيره... كان يسير في الزقاق الضيق، منطلقاً تجاه الحارة الكبيرة، التي أصبحت أثار بيوت متبقية، وزوابع غبار تلف المكان... كان يبحث عن صورة بحجم الوطن، "الميناء رمز فقط... الشهداء وطن... الشهداء وطن".
