لعل موضوع الإجهاض هو الأكثر سخونة بين المواضيع المتعلقة بالمرأة وحريتها وحقوقها، فالبعض يعتبره حقاً من حقوقها، وينادي بحريتها وسلطتها على جسدها، فيما يعتبره البعض تعدياً على حقوق الآخرين وقتلاً للنفس التي حرمّ الله تعالى بغير حق، وأعني به الجنين البريء الذي لا ذنب له سوى عدم الرغبة في وجوده.
وقد حاول شذاذ بعض المجتمعات الغربية أن صوروا للمرأة أن الإجهاض هو حق لها، ضمن الحقوق والشعارات الزائفة التي تطرحها حول الحرية والمساواة، ولذلك كثر إستغلال هذا الموضوع من قبل السياسيين والجمعيات النسائية التي تدّعى التحرر، وكانت المرأة ضحية هذه الشعارات الزائفة.
وزاد من مشكلة الإجهاض تعقيداً وتفاقماً، الحروب التي اندلعت وما تزال تندلع هنا وهناك في أكثر من بقعة من بقاع الأرض مخلفة وراءها الدمار والفساد والتحلل الخلقي، وعمليات الإغتصاب، والزنى والتي بنتيجتها تكثر عمليات الإجهاض وتنتشر.
وفيما ينظر الشرق والغرب إلى عملية الإجهاض على أنها جريمة قتل يعاقب عليها في الشرائع الإلهية والقوانين الوضعية، تتعالى أصوات النشاز في أكثر من مكان من الأرض لتجعل من هذه الجريمة عملاً مباحاً بعيداً عن الإدانة والتجريم والعقوبة.
