شكلت كثرة الاسقاطات الجنائية والأحمال غير المرغوب فيها سواء من قبل المتزوجات أو غيرهن كما أن نقص الكتابة في هذا الموضوع الشائك بسبب حساسيته وتداعياته، حافزاً إضافياً للكتابة في هذا الموضوع. وذلك كمحاولة متواضعة لتقديم إسهام في هذا المجال من خلال تسليط الاضواء على مخاطر الإسقاط ومضاعفاته ذات الأبعاد المختلفة النفسية، المرضية، الاجتماعية وغيرها. ومع التغييرات التي عرفها العالم والثورات المتلاحقة فيه فقد عرفت العديد من التشريعات في هذه الدول تغيرات مختلفة فبعد أن كانت تلاحق بصرامة من يتعامل مع الإجهاض أصبحت تسمح بحصوله وتبرره. وقد قسمت التشريعات الأردنية لتعامل مع مسألة الإجهاض إلى ما يلي: الأجهاض الطبي المتعمد. هذه العملية التي يلجأ إليها الطبيب بتوسعة عنق الرحم ثم إزالة الجنين الإجهاض الحتمي التلقائي: هو الإجهاض الذي يحدث دون تدخل طبي أو غيره (أي دون استخدام الأدوية).
