رواية الجهيض أول الأعمال التى ألفتها زينب القاضى فى مجال الرواية ، قامت دار نشر لونجمان بنشر هذه الرواية فى العام 1984 الميلادى ، وطبعت مره ثانية فى العام نفسه وأعيد طبعها فى العام 1996،1995،1990 ، وجاء نشر هذه الرواية بمثابة الإشارة الاولى لظهور هذه السيدة على المسرح الفنى بوصفها روائية.
يقول بعض النقاد أن رواية الجهيض تعكس إيمان مؤلفتها بأنه من الضرورى السماح لكل النساء فى سائر أنحاء نيجيريا ، بل وتشجيعهن على تحقيق الطاقة الكامنة فيهن ، إذا ما اريد لهن أن يشاركن مشاركه فعالة فى بناء الأمة. ترى إلى أى مدى يصدق ذلك على هذه الرواية البكلا؟
تكشف الرواية عن الهزة العنيفة التى أصابت "لاى" الجميلة بعد ان هجرها زوجها إلى المدينة ، فى أحلامها المراهقة التى راودتها عن الهرب من حياة القرية لإلى حياة الترف. ترى أينبغى لها أن تتبع زوجها مضحية بضياع الكرامة ، أم ينبغى عليها الأنتظار أن يتسدعيها زوجها؟
