ان هذا الكتاب مساهمة من المؤلفين بطرحهم موضوع القياس والتشخيص بصورة سهلة التناول، محددة المعالم، غير مضيّعة في خضم التفاصيل. ولكن دونما إهمال للأساسيات التي يحتاجها العاملون في ميدان التربية الخاصة، حين يجدون أنفسهم مضطرين في كل موقف إلى تقييم نتائج جهودهم بجوانبها المختلفة.
وقد أبرز الكتاب في فصول عدة أدوات التقييم والتشخيص من حيث أنواعها وأشكالها وصدقها وثباتها وموضوعيتها والأغراض التي تخدمها كل أداة والميدان الذي يمكن أن تستخدم فيه.
ولم يهمل المؤلفون حقيقة هامة، وهي أن قيمة أية أداة لا تكمن في معرفة كيفية استخدامها، وإنما تكون في تحليل النتائج التي يُسفر عنها استخدام الأداة وتفسيرها.
والاستناد إلى التفسيرات في تقرير البرامج المناسبة لمعالجة المشكلات التي استدعت عمليات القياس والتشخيص كما ورد في الفصل السابع من الكتاب.
أما الفصلان الثامن والتاسع فقد ابتعد فيهما المؤلفون عن القياس والتشخيص بصورته العامة وركّزوا على متطلبات التقييم في التربية الخاصة، سواء تعلّق الأمر بحالات صعوبات التعلّم أو التخلّف العقلي أو أنواع الإعاقات الأخرى: كلامية، سمعية، بصرية وحتى الاضطرابات الانفعالية.
