تتناول جدلية الريف والدينة دراسة العلاقة بينهما (الريف والمدينة) من خلال التنقل البشري كما جاء في الإنتاج القصصي التونسي المنشور منذ الاستقلال إلى سنة 1972 على صفحات مجلة "الفكر" ومجلة "قصص" ومجلة "التجديد". وكذلك في مجموعة أخضعت لانتقاء يقوم على مدى أهميتها بالنسبة إلى البحث.
وقد أُصْحِبت الدراسة بتلخيص موجز لكل قصة على حدة حتى تكون للقارئ فكرة يسترشد بها في متابعة هذه الدراسة. كما تمّ ترتيب هذا التلخيص هجائياً حسب اسم المؤلف: ابن الشيخ (عبد القادر): "ونصيبي من الأفق"، ابن مراد (إبراهيم): "أحزان ثغرة في الجدار"، بالحاج نصر (عبد القادر): "رقصة الأشقياء"، الجابري (محمد صالح): "أحراش الشوك"، الحمزاوي (رشاد): "تعيش وتربي الريش"، الحمزاوي (رشاد): "دجاجة عمتي"، خرّيف (بشير): "رحلة الصيف"، دمدوم (سالم): "امرأة من الريف"، عمران (الطاهر علي): "هل تنفرج الطريق"، الفارسي (مصطفى): "القنطرة هي الحياة"، القديدي (أحمد): "جريمة قتل"، القرماوي (صالح): "الشيات"، الكوني (رضوان): "ثرثرة حول مسألة تافهة"، اللبيب (الطاهر): "والد وما ولد"، مرسيط (محمد): "إحدى الحكايات".
تلك هي القصص التي تمت دراستها من مختلف جوانبها الشكلية والأغراضية حتى يخرج القارئ في النهاية بفكرة متكاملة، لا يهمل فيها الباحث المضمون من أجل الشكل كما ولا يضحي بالشكل من أجل المضمون اعتباراً منه للتلازم الطبيعي بين كل دال ومدلوله.
