"الحفرة لم تكن مجرد بعدٍ جغرافيّ يظل مجمداً وميّتاً ما لم تغسله أمطار الرحمة أو تهزّه ريح من رياح الشرقي العاتية... ولم تكن مجرد مكان مسطَّح ومحايد... فقد كانت، علاوة على ذاكرتها المغتصبة، ترى، وكانت ترى بعين المجانين، وقد صاغها هؤلاء بقدر ما صاغتهم.
فالحفرة ارتقت إلى أن تكون حانة خلفية في الهواء الطلق وفضاءً للتفلسف والمصادفة والكلام الحرّ والزعامات الفارغة، وبالقدر ذاته ارتقت إلى ان تكون مشفى سخيّاً وغير مرئي لمجانين بعقول متّقّدة...
كانت سيركاً من دون أبواب وقلاع وجمهور، لكن بأبطال حقيقيين وبحكايات لا تخلو من تأثّر متبادل ما بين الذوات ذاتها من جهة وما بين هذه الذوات والوجود من جهة ثانية.
ولعلّ الأهم أنها كانت تتيح للمجانين شرف الخروج من شرنقة ذواتهم المثقلة بصدأ اليومي والمنحل والمفتّت... وشرف التحرّر من حيواتهم المحاطة بحموضة الزفت الإجتماعي وعقيدة النفاق الإجتماعي.
أجل من بعيد لا يبدو أي شيء في الحفرة، لكن بالنسبة إلى المجانين كانت توجد فيها جميع الأشياء.. وكانت توجد فيها "الكنوز" أيضاً، وأمّا السياج، اللعين، فسيزيد من خبايا البصر وهضم الجغرافيا... وتفتيت البقية الباقية".
