يقول ابنُ الوليد، مؤلّف هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا، إن الكتاب يجمع علَمَين قلّما جاد بهما الزمن العربيّ، الزمنُ الذاهب في الهبوط على غير صعيد، بدءًا بالثقافيّ/ الإبداعيّ، الأدبيّ والفنيّ والفكريّ والنقديّ، مرورًا بالاجتماعيّ والاقتصاديّ والسياسيّ والعسكريّ، وليس انتهاءً بالإنساني الذي يشهد المزيد من الانهيار لأحوال الإنسان العربيّ، وعلى الأصعدة كافّة أيضًا. علَمين يعرض لهما الباحث والناقد الفذّ ابن الوليد بقَدْر كبير من الجدّة والعمق، قلّما وجدنا مثلهما في هذا الأفق، وفي مثل هذا التناول الجدّيّ. وإذا كانت هذه هي المرّةَ الأولى التي "يشتبك" فيها الناقد يحيى ابن الوليد، اشتباكًا إيجابيًّا، مع منجز الشاعر العربيّ الفلسطينيّ (العالميّ)، فهذه ليست الأولى في ما يتعلّق بمتابعته للعلَم الثاني، الفلسطيني الأمريكيّ (الكَونيّ) إدوارد سعيد، ولمشروعه الفكريّ النقدي الذي جسّد، مع مجموعة من المفكّرين العالميّين، تيّارًا في الفكر النظريّ والماديّ/ العمَليّ.. إذ سبق لابن الوليد أن توقّف مطوّلًا مع فكر سعيد وتنظيراته، ورصد حضوره في العالَم العربيّ، هذا الحضور الباهت قياسًا إلى حضوره، أي سعيد، في المشهد الفكريّ الهنديّ، على سبيل المثال، الذي كان الأكثر تفاعلًا معه مقارنة مع الثقافة العربية.
