هذا الكتاب موجه إلى طلاب جامعة بيروت العربية في كلياتها المختلفة باعتباره "متطلباً" جامعياً إجبارياً بعد تطبيق نظام "الساعات المعتمدة".
والذي لا شك فيه أن مستوى "الأداء" بالعربية –تحدثاً وكتابةً- أصابه خلل كبير لأسباب كثيرة ليس هذا موضع عرضها. ثم إن عدداً من التخصصات يقدم إلى الطلاب في معظم الجامعات العربية –بلغات أجنبية مما يجعل من العسير- ومن المستحيل أحياناً أن يعرض الدارس موضوعاً علمياً بلغة عربية مستقيمة.
وهذا الكتاب محاولة أولى، يقصد إلى تقديم إطار عام للغة العربية لغير المتخصصين، عارضاً "لأنظمة" اللغة في خصائصها العامة، مركزاً على ما يجري به الاستعمال اللغوي فحسب، متخلصاً من "الحشو" الذي تمتلئ به كتبنا التعليمية في التعليم العام والتعليم الجامعي على السواء. وهو لا يقتصر على الأنظمة الصوتية والصرفية والنحوية والكتابية للعربية، بل يعرض لموضوعات نراها مهمة جداً في عصرنا الحاضر، مثل موقف العربية بين لغات العالم في عصر العولمة، والعربية وتعريب العلوم، والعربية والحاسوب، ثم عني آخر الآمر بتدريب الطلاب على كتابة المقال العلمي.
ويهدف هذا الكتاب إلى اكتساب المهارات الآتية: 1-مهارة الاستماع بدرس الأصوات العربية دراسة علمية. 2-مهارة الحديث عن طريق المناقشة داخل قاعات الدرس حول المسائل التي عرضناها آخر كل موضوع. 3-مهارة الكتابة العلمية.
ويهدف أيضاً إلى تنمية القدرات الآتية: 1-القدرة على التمييز العلمي بين الأصوات. 2-القدرة على الوصف العلمي للظواهر اللغوية. 3-القدرة على قراءة البحوث العلمية بالعربية، وعلى تلخيصها. 4-القدرة على كتابة المقال العلمي.
