يسعى هذا الكتاب إلى تعلّم اللغة العربية وتعليمها من خلال إكساب المتعلم مهارات استعمال اللغة استعمالاً فاعلاً وناجحاً في اتصال المرء بغيره والتواصل معه محادثة واستماعاً وقراءة وكتابة، وذلك على النحو التالي:
1- أن يكتسب مهارات الإستماع بحيث يفهم ما يقال، ويستنتج ما يقصده المتحدث في حديثه، ويحلل الكلام، ويلخصه، ويقوّمه، وينقده.
2- أن يكتسب مهارات القراءة الجبرية والتي منها: نطق الكلمات نطقاً سليماً، وتأدية المعنى أداءً حسناً، وأن يتفاعل مع المقروء نتيجة فهمه للنص، كل ذلك إلى جانب توافر عناصر السرعة والدقة.
3- أن يكتسب مهارات القراءة الصامتة فهماً وتطبيقاً وتحليلاً وتركيباً وتقويماً، وتوظيف هذه القراءة في حل المشكلات.
4- أن يكتسب مهارات التعبير الوظيفي لممارسة متطلبات التفاعل مع المجتمع الرسمي والوظيفي والشخصي، وأن يكتسب مهارات التعبير عن النفس وما يقع تحت الحس والشعور كلاماً وكتابةً في أسلوب واضح ومنظم.
5- أن يكتب كتابة صحيحة بأسلوب سليم خال من الأخطاء النحوية واللغوية والإملائية، وبخط واضح ومفهوم.
6- أن يعبر شفاهياً عن فكره وحاجاته ورغباته وميوله بطلاقة ومرونة وسهولة، وسلامة من الأخطاء.
7- أن يوظّف مكتسباته اللغوية في مواقف التعبير الشفاهي والكتابي.
8- أن يكتسب مهارات التذوق الأدبي، واكتشاف مواطن الجمال في النصوص المختلفة، ويتفاعل معها.
9- أن يكتسب مهارات البحث عن الكلمات والبحث في المعاجم والموسوعات لاكتشاف معاني الكلمات واستعمالاتها المختلفة حقيقة ومجازاً.
10- تفسح أنشطة الكتاب التعامل مع تقنيات العصر بفاعلية.
كل ذلك في إطار نظرية الإتصال اللغوي التي نركز عليها ونجعلها خلفية لهذا العمل الهادف.
