تعتبر مشكلة الطلاق في مجتمع الإمارات ذات عوامل متداخلة ومتفاعلة بعضها مع بعض، وقد تختلف هذه العوامل في شدتها وتأثيرها في حجم المشكلة. ففي حين نجد أن العوامل ذات الطابع النفسي والداخلي أشد أثراً لدى الزوجة، وأن العوامل التي ترجع باعتبارها سبباً في الطلاق، إلى الرجل أكثر من تلك التي ترجع إلى المرأة، فإن الكشف عن هذه العوامل بمسبباتها الحقيقية يحتاج إلى خبرة ودراية وتعاون الأطراف والفئات كافة للتغلب على هذه المشكلة المتفاقمة. وحول هذه الظاهرة يأتي البحث في هذا الكتاب وهدف الباحث في دراسته لهذه الظاهرة، والعودة إلى جذور المشكلة واستقرائها من وجهة نظر النساء المطلقات أولاً، ومن كافة الفئات الاجتماعية المحيطة بالظاهرة التي تؤثر فيها وتتأثر بها. لكي يكون الاستقراء شمولياً ومثمراً وبعيداً عن جزئية التحليل، من أجل تحديد أبعادها الحقيقية، وإلقاء الضوء عليها، ووضع المقترحات العملية المناسبة للحد منها بالقدر المستطاع. وقد عمد الباحث إلى استخدام أسلوب المعاينة العشوائية في تحديد مفردات عينة البحث من المطلقات مع مراعاة حجم الطبقات (المناطق الجغرافية) بقدر الإمكان.
