تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تقييم الوزن الجيوبوليتيكي لدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة في ضوء المعطيات الجغرافية التي تؤثر في الوزن الدولي والمستقبل الجيوبوليتيكي لهذه الدولة، لغرض التوصل إلى التعرف الدقيق على مكانة الدولة وإمكانياتها ومقوماتها ومدى انعكاس ذلك على دورها الاستراتيجي المحلي والعربي والدولي. كما وتهدف هذه الدراسة إلى توضيح موقف هذه الدولة إزاء خاصية عدم الاستقرار الدولي وانعكاساته على أمن منطقة الخليج العربي واستقرارها من جهة، وحداثة هذه الدولة ومتطلبات البناء الداخلي من جهة ثانية.
ويندرج ضمن أهداف هذه الدراسة أيضاً تجسيد حقيقة نجاح الاتحاد بين الإمارات العربية السبع تجسيداً عملياً وواقعياً، فضلاً عن هدف الباحث في وضع إطار نظري جيوبوليتيك لهذه الدولة ليكون مكملاً للجوانب الأخرى التي درست من قبل باحثين آخرين: وسلك الباحث في تحديد مشكلات لجنة الرئيسية طريقة التساؤلات التي تتطلب الإجابة عنها، وتمت صياغة هذه التساؤلات بالشكل التالي: 1-ما هي طبيعة المقومات الجيوبوليتيكة لدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة؟ وما دورها في صياغة الوزن الجيوبوليتيكي لهذه الدولة، وأثرها في مستقبلها الجيوبوليتيكي؟ 2-ما هي المشكلات الجيوبوليتيكة التي تواجه دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة؟ وأي الجوانب الجغرافية تشكل عوامل ضعف جيوبوليتيك؟ 3-كيف يمكن توظيف العناصر الجيوبوليتيكية لدولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة؟ وفي أي المجالات؟ وقد اتبع الباحث في دراسة حول دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة المنهج الوصفي والمنهج التحليلي (Power Analysis Approach) (تحليل القوة).
ويقوم هذا المنهج على تحليل العامل الجغرافي بوصفه طرفاً في معادلة القوة، ويشمل هذا العامل أربعة عناصر جغرافية مؤثرة في قوة الدولة هي: البيئة الطبيعية، والسكان، والمقومات الاقتصادية، والسلوك السياسي، وتم تناول الموضوع بأسلوب موضوعي وواقعي في تحليل العناصر السابقة من أجل التوصل إلى حقيقة مساهمة كل عنصر في بناء القوة الجيوبوليتيكية للدولة.
