كما الشعر من نوع بديع من نتاجات الكفر، كذا الشاعر يتالق بين معشر الشعراء. وعبد الكريم بعلبكي، تألق شعراً في "خيول قلبي" ، "وراح في فضاءات الفكر والكلمة، ممتطياً جواده، ليستدعي الخيال، ويلملم آفاقه شغفاً، ليهبها للذواقة مشهدية رائعة، تنعش وتحيي .. هو الشاعر الذي برز عَلَماً مبدعاً ومجدداً في دنيا القصيدة العربية الحديثة، تخيّلاً وإيقاعاً وتوزيعاً، متناغماً مع اسرار الساطير، ومتماهياً مع انسياب الرومانسية وليكون معه "خيول قلبي" دعوة لامتطاء الحب والحياة.
في القصيدة التي يفتتح بها الشاعر مجموعته نقرأ: "ملّ السكون انتظارها ... /تداعت العيونُ في غيهب الأفق / أرسلت نسائمها / خربشات / رسمت القلب شفق / خلعت ثوب الإنتظار ومضيت / تطايرت عند وجنة الحلم / قرب عبودية الوداع والرحيل / دارت حول الضجر / الرياح جواز سفر / ترسل خيول قلبي صور ...". إن الشاعر بلغته الإبداعية هذه، تقودنا إلى القول أن ذات الشاعر تشكل عصب القصيدة وحافز أنبنائها داخلياً، وبخاصة في اشتغالاته على النبرة الإيقاعية التي تستثمر من تاريخ الشاعر وتاريخ لبنان وتاريخ الكتابة نفسها.
يضم الكتاب ثلاثين قصيدة في الشعر العربي الحديث جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "خيول قلبي" ، "يا أنت" ، "تعالي" ، "مصابيح الصمت" ، "الأفق المطلق" ، "جمرة المساء" ، "سنابل الجراح" ، "إفترشنا الوداع" ، "نشاز السكون" ، "خزائن الإعترافات" (...) وقصائد أخرى.
