وأنا في هذه المحاولة لن اكون الأول ولا الأخير في الدفاع عن المعري، وإثبات إيمانه، وصحة إسلامه، فقد سبقني إلى ذلك كثير من الأدباء والباحثين الأفاضل.
وأنا إذ أقدم محاولتي المتواضعة، إنما أهدف إلى أن تتعرف أجيالنا -التي لم تعد تعرف شيئاً كثيراً عن عمالقة الأدب والشعر العربي- على هذه الموهبة الشعرية والفلسفيّة الفذّة، مؤكداً على قوة إيمان الرجل، وصحة عقيدته وحُسن إسلامه دون مواربة ما.
والأدلة والشواهد واضحة على ذلك ولا لبس فيها، وهي إنتاج الرجل نفسه.
لذلك كان من حقّه علينا أن نعمل على تقديمه إلى الأجيال بالصورة الحقيقية الواضحة، وأرجو أن أكون قد قمت ببعض واجبي تجاه فيلسوف المعرة، وشاعرها الكبير، الذي لم يكن في حياته – على الرغم من مأساوِّيتها – غير الرجل الداعي إلى الخير وإعمال العقل، والمساواة بين الناس كافة.
هكذا كان المعري.. الإنسان.. الشاعر.. الفيلسوف، وهذا ما تعكسه آثاره الإبداعية، وهذا ما حاولت أن أدلّ عليه، وأشير إليه، والله من وراء القصد.
