يتناول هذا الكتاب بالنقد والتحليل الجهود الروائية من الأدب العربي الفلسطيني المعاصر (1950-1975). وقد مهد الباحث لموضوعه، بتتبع البدايات الروائية في فلسطين قبل عام 1950، متوصلاً إلى نتائج هامة، حيث أثبت أن فلسطين لم تتخلف في مجال (فن الرواية) عن غيرها من الأقطار العربية التي تعارف النقاد على سبقها في هذا الميدان.
أما الأعمال الروائية المعاصرة (1950-1975) فقد درسها الكتاب من خلال اتجاهاتها الفنية: الرومانسية، الرمزية، والواقعية الاشتراكية، متوقفاً عند أعمال الكتاب الفلسطينيين الذين أسهموا في تطور المعيار الفني للرواية العربية مثل: غسان كنفاني وجبرا وأميل حبيبي.
إن هذا الكتاب، يعتبر الأول في موضوعه، فلم يسبق أن أنجزت دراسة بهذا الشمول والتتبع التاريخي والفني للرواية في الأدب الفلسطيني، كما أنه يتميز بدراسة الأعمال الروائية من خلال منظور نقدي ملائم بين الموضوع والبناء الفني، بالإضافة إلى أنه يدرس بعض الموضوعات الخاصة بالرواية الفلسطينية للمرة الأولى...
