حظيت أعمال أرسطوطاليس الخطابية بإهتمام عند فلاسفة العرب القدامى، حيث كانت البلاغة العربية ما زالت أسيرة " اللكسيس " حيث كانت البلاغة الأرسطية بلاغة خطابة، والبلاغة العربية بلاغة عبارة وجملة؛ كما أننا لم نجد بعد البحث ممن إهتم بالخطابة على قلتهم وخاصة الصورة الفنية، التي فتنت نفراً غير قليل من النقاد على إختلاف مشاربهم الثقافية ومستوياتهم العلمية؛ وحيث إتجهت البحوث البلاغية والنقدية بإتجاه الصورة في الشعر وأهملت الصورة في النثر.
لذلك جاء هذا الكتاب بعد جهد هائل في البحث في أكبر مستويات الأسلوب الخطابي، وهو الصورة في خطب الإمام "علي بن أبي طالب الحربية".
ولقد إرتأى المؤلف للكشف عن الصورة الفنية في خطب الإمام "علي الحربية" مقدمةٍ وخمسة فصولٍ وخاتمةٍ عامة على النحو التالي: المقدمة: وتشتمل على تبيان دوافع البحث من حيث منزلة الأسلوب في الأسلوبية منهجاً ومجاورتها وتعاونها مع البحث اللساني الحديث، وخصوصية البحث في خطب الإمام "علي الحربية"، الفصل الأوّل: وقد عنون بــ"مقدمات نظريّة"، وجعله في مبحثين: الأول كان مدخلاً توثيقياً للمدونة العلوية، والثاني كان حول مفهوم الصورة الفنية عند النقاد قديماً وحديثاً، الفصل الثاني: وأسماه (الصورة القائمة على التشابه)، وأدرج فيه الصور التشبيهية، ودرس التشبيه المرسل والبليغ والتمثيلي، ثم عرَّف بالصورة الإستعمارية، الفصل الثالث: وقد طرح فيه موضوع (الصور القائمة على التداعي)، الفصل الرّابع: وتناول فيه مصادر الصور في علاقتي التشابه والتداعي، الفصل الخامس والأخير: خصصه لوظائف الصور في علاقتي التشابه والتداعي، وتناول هذه الوظائف من خلال خمسة محاور تمثل أهم الأغراض التي ينهض بها الحجاج والتي تحققها الصور في المدونة العلوية الحربية.
