شعر قديم، وقراءة جديدة معاصرة، الغاية منها تطبيق مقاييس جديدة حديثة للشعر على شعر أبي تمام الذي كان ذا اتجاه إبداعي يتكئ فيه على نفسه، ويرتبط عنده بجمال صعب في إدراكه وفي إخراجه، ويصدر فيه عن ذوق خاص، ومفهوم شعري خاص، رأى المؤلف أن أبا تمام لم يبال كثيراً إن كان متفقاً فيه مع أراء النقاد أو مخالفاً، حيث هضم الشاعر كل ما تقدمه وما كان في عصره من شعر وثقافة ثم خرج على الناس باتجاه جديد. على ضوء ذلك حاول المؤلف ومن خلال عقل نقدي متجدد إعادة قراءة قصائد أبي تمام بهدف الكشف في هذه النصوص الإبداعية ما لم تكتشفه العصور السابقة عليه.
