كلما كان الحديث عن الصورة، إلا وتبادر الشعر إلى الأذهان، إذ الشعر مظنة الصورة، لكن الطريف في هذا الموضوع أنه يدرس الصورة في الخطابة، ويحاول إستجلاء خصائصها الحجاجية.
وهذا الطرح الإشكالي يجعل أسئلة البحث مشروعة غير مفتعلة، والأجوبة التي يقدمها الباحث في هذا العمل تنسجم مع نهج البلاغة الذي عرف به الإمام علي رضي الله عنه، فقد اختار الباحث خطيباً مفوهاً جعل من الكلمة سلاحاً لتغيير الإعتقادات ووسيلة للتأثير في القلوب والعقول، حتى إن كثيراً من أقواله اضحى مثلاً سائراً.
والجمع بين جمالية الصورة البلاغية وحجاجيتها لا تقف دونه الحواجز عندما يتعلق الأمر بالخطب السياسية لدى الإمام علي رضي الله عنه، فقد خبر دروب التعبير وتمرس بفنون المراوحة بين المعاني حتى إن العبارات والمعاني لتتبادل الأدوار في التأثير والإقناع، ولم يكن الحجاج عائقاً أمام جمالية التعبير، كما لم تكن جمالية التعبير عائقاً أمام الحجاج.
وقد كان هذا المدخل الذي يعالج الصورة من زاوية حجاجية ميداناً أبرز فيه الباحث قدرته على الفهم والتحليل والتأويل فرضه المقصد الحجاجي للصورة دون طمس للجوانب الفنية، مع ما يستدعيه ذلك من ضبط للمنهج، وتقنين لحدود التداخل والتخارج بين ما هو شعري وما هو حجاجي وخطابي.
