"وأنت تعاود النظر إلى الماضي.. وأنت تفكر في العشر سنوات الممتدة أمامك، تسعر بانسحاق داخلي عظيم، تتجه إلى الحيطان العريضة تضربها بكلتا يديك، تهذي، تهلوس، تغيظ الشاب فيأخذك من صدرك، يهزك في عنف إعصار عنيف، فتبكي على صدره مثل طفل صغير، حينئذ تهدأ نار الغيظ فيك. الآن لا تفكر في شيء على الإطلاق.. لأنك ستجد الوقت ممتداً أمامك مثل ظل ثقيل.
استرخيت على سرير القش، وجهك في هذه اللحظة يتجه إلى القضبان، كانت السماء تبدو من وراء الجدران السميكة زرقاء. تعانق فيك الماضي والحاضر والمستقبل، لمحت طيف (غنيمة) كالبارقة يطل من الخارج ثم يختفي، تذكرت الصبي، وتمثلت لك صورة الميناء، كان يبدو لك بعيداً ولكن رؤيته كانت واضحة، انسحبت الغيوم، من أفقه، انزاح الضباب: بدا قرص الشمس يبرز في تباطؤ شديد، ولكن بزوغه كان أكيداً.. لم تتمالك نفسك، كطفل صغير تولدت الفرحة في أعماقك، وكانت علائم ابتسامة تتفتح براعمها من بين شفتيك".
