يمكن التسليم بأن الدورات الحضارية أو الدورات التاريخية للأمم المتحضرة لا تكاد تلخو من وجوه شبه ظاهرية مع دورة الحية التى يمر بها الكائن الحى، لاسيما الكائن العاقل الذى يؤثر فى غيره ويتأثر بغيره، ويختار بعض أمره ويجبر على بعض أمره. وعلى هذا الاعتبار تعاقبت للحضارات الكبرى مراحل طفولة ونشأة، ومراحل فتوة وشباب، ومراحل كهولة وشيخوخة.
وعلى حيت استطاعت بعض الشعوب او الحضارات الثقافات أن تستريجع شباببها بعد شيخوختها مرة ومرات، ونجحت فى أن تفيق من نهاية دورة تاريخية لتستأنف دورة أخرى مزودة بعزمات جديدة، ومستعينة ببعض خبراتها القديمة التى تغنيها عن الرجوع إلى تجارب النشأة أوالطفولة والبدء بها مرة أخرى. وكانت مسيرة أمم الشرق الأدنى فى ركب التاريخ ضمن هذا البعض من الحضارات والشعوب، فتعددت دورتها واستعادة شبابها عدة مرات، ولعلها الآن بسبيلها إلى تحقيق شباب قوى جديد.
